Beyond the Books Blog Today

"Beyond the books, the contracts, as well as the rejections, there is an author out there just like you and me – struggling for notoriety and their little piece of the publishing world. Who is that author beyond their book and what makes them tick? Beyond the Books explores what it is that writers go through for publication and how they keep their heads above the waters of rejection."

                                                Beyond the Books Blog

Find out what I wend through in order to become a published author.  Believe me, it's not just signing books, looking at (hopefully successful) stats and having people ask for an autograph.

Oh, all of that happens, but the journey is long, and one must pay his or her dues.  There is platform building, conferences to attend, long days and nights building a blog following and oh, so much more.

But you know what?  I love it and would never go back to life before writing.

Read about the journey today!

The Adventures of My Family of Eight Blog--Pelican Giveaway!

Today, we are going multi-generational.  This terrific blog, The Adventures of My Family of Eight, showcases how families of different generations can and do live together in one house.  And can be happy doing it!  How great is that!

What, you may ask, does that have to do with One Pelican at a Time?  Well, we are getting you ready for what you'll see in this fabulous blog.  One thing is for sure.  You'll see an interview of Pelican.  Let's see if it's favorable.

A copy of One Pelican at a Time will be given away today.  All you need to do is make a comment on the blog above!!

We have been very fortunate so far with each interview's being wonderful.  Mr. Pelican thinks our luck will hold out, thanks mainly to his wit, charm and savoir faire.

He could be right, of course, although Britt and Bella doubt it.

I'm the author.  I don't say a word!

The Hot Author Interview

Good Morning to you all!  Yes, Mr. Pelican, this is my interview for a change.  Just mine.

We are talking about my writing schedule, what I do to stay in top form and how life is different as a published author.  I don't know what my life was like without the three of you, but today I am going to try to remember!

The Hot Author Report is a fine blog and one I think my readers will enjoy.  Oh, that's right, girls.  I mean our readers.

Okay, okay, I get it.  You're important to the book as well.  I'll fix things:

Happy Now?

An Interview with As the Pages Turn Blog

We have another interview today at As the Pages Turn.  Britt, Bella, Pelican and I are very happy to be part of this blog today.  We hope you can join us, too!

"Yeah, girls.  I heard there's a lot about us in this interview!  And our esteemed author?  Not so much.  I can't wait to read it!"

"I didn't know you could read, Mr. Pelican."

"Well, Bella, I can't really, but promise not to tell anyone.  I wouldn't want my fans to be disappointed.  Besides, you and Britt can read it to me."

"Yes, of course, we can, Mr. Pelican."

"Aw, Britt.  You're just too nice.  I think we should keep him guessing a little longer."

"Okay, Bella.  I just don't want any pelican drama."

"I promise, girls, or you can have all my fish.  Ur ah eh, one of my fish..."

One Pelican at a Time Virtural Book Tour, April and May, 2011

Bella, Britt, Pelican and I will virtually tour the blogosphire, beginning  April 4 through May 27, 2011 on my first virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book! And, of course, none of us would be touring without the marvelous artwork by Samantha Bell.

About One Pelican at a Time

Bella and Britt love living by the beach. When they find oil washing to shore from a gulf spill, they want to help but are told there is nothing for kids to do. But when their old friend the crooked beak pelican, becomes covered with oil, they help save his life by their quick thinking and action.

The girls waited and watched while adults tried to fix the problem. That is, until they saw the old pelican leave his perch and plunge into a patch of blackened sea.

Britt gasped.  "Will he come back up?"

"If he does, how can he live? Bella asked.

But he did come to the surface, covered in heavy tacky oil. After seeing his oily feathers, the girls took action.

"Help! Help us help the pelican! both girls screamed.

Normally on such a hot summer day, the beach boy would be renting colorful umbrellas to his customers. Instead, he sat alone on the sand. "What's wrong?" He jumped up and ran toward the girls.

"The old pelican! The old pelican! We have to save him! Bella sobbed.

"Come on. No time to lose!" The young man sprinted down the beach toward the clean-up crews.

"Ah, I know that old bird," nodded the crew chief. "Let's go get him."
