Guest Post at Coffee and a Keyboard

I am interviewed today at the lovely blog, Coffee and a Keyboard, where the by-line is Art-Life-Love!

In the interview, I was asked some pretty in-depth questions.  I also give a peek into the next book on the drawing board and, no, Bella and Britt are not in this one.  It's a bit of a departure for me.

The interview, of course, is to help spread the word about Sea Turtle Summer, the second book of the Bella and Britt Series of children's books.  Happily, the word must be out, as Sea Turtle Summer is on Amazon's Hot New Releases in both the hard and soft cover formats!
Below, I share with you one of Samantha Bell's wonderful watercolors.  So lovely!

It's my hope you agree that her art makes the book come alive. The girls, ranger and the loggerhead hatchlings are given a life of their own with her amazing talent.

One Pelican at a Time earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

I am honored to accept the Literary Classics Seal of Approval for One Pelican at a Time:  A Story of the Gulf Oil Spill.  The book was on Amazon's Bestsellers for Children List for 18 weeks. It was also on Amazon's Hot New Releases and Most Wished For in Children's Books.  Pelican was featured on the PBS Tampa (WEDU) GulfWatch Series and was a Global eBook Nominee.

"One Pelican at a Time, written by Nancy Stewart and illustrated by Samantha Bell, is the story of two young girls who frequent a beach near their home. When a gulf oil spill threatens their beach and the animals which inhabit it, they are saddened by the knowledge that there is little they can do to help.

But when their old friend, the pelican is put in harm's way after diving into the oil coated water, the girls act quickly to save the pelican's life.

Dedicated to Promoting Excellence in Literature

One Pelican at a Time is a timely book which touches on important issues regarding environmental stewardship and responsibility. Lovely illustrations help enhance this book which would be an exceptional classroom aid for prompting discussion about caring for our planet.  One Pelican at a Time earns the Literary Classics Seal of Approval."

Thank you, Literary Classics.

View PBS Video on My Writing of One Pelican at a Time

A big thank-you goes to WEDU-Tampa Bay PBS!  I appreciate having had the opportunity to be featured on this terrific station for such a worthwhile cause as GulfWatch.   Special thanks to Tara Slusher, Producer. Please take a look at the video at the bottom of this post.

PBS began the shoot on June 4 at Book Nook by the Bay, St. Petersburg, Florida, where I read and signed copies of, One Pelican at a Time.  Very early the next morning, we continued the shoot both at the beach and at our condo on Clearwater Beach, as shown below in the video.

GulfWatch is a consortium of public media companies that create broadcast and digital content for various platforms.   This one was done to engage and educate audiences about the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill and environmental issues because of it.

The public media stations include: WEDU-TV, and WUSF-TV/FM in Tampa; Louisiana Public Broadcasting; Alabama Public Television; Mississippi Public Broadcasting; WWNO-FM, New Orleans; WBHM-FM, Birmingham, AL; WSRE-TV/FM, Pensacola, Fla.; WVAS-FM, Montgomery, Ala.; and KRVS-FM in Lafayette, La. The Gulf Watch project was funded by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

One Day at a Time Review of Pelican

The whole Pelican gang is interviewed today at the terrific One Day at a Time Blog.  We are happy to be featured there!

Britt, Bella, Mr. Pelican and I hope One Pelican at a Time will be a childhood memory for many children.  We all want, parents, teachers, librarians and children's authors, to impress on our young people the necessity of taking care of the only earth we have.

We know that working with our kids one day at a time, we will be able to accomplish such a worthy task.  A task that kids will be proud to have achieved.  A task that they will pass on to their children.  A task that is not only politically correct but is imperative for our very existance.

Let's all continue helping our kids make positive childhood memories, one day at a time!
